Construction Loan beneficiaries will have a longer period before they start repaying their loans. This will allow them adequate time to complete and occupy their homes before beginning mortgage payments.
The following conditions will apply under the new policy:
- Borrowers will have a period of 12 months before they begin making payments on their NHT loans. Previously, mortgagors were expected to begin making their first mortgage payments seven (7) months after the first disbursement of the loan.
- Mortgagors will be required to pay 3% interest during the 12-month moratorium period. Previously, interest during the moratorium was calculated at the interest rate at which they qualified for the loan.
